Effects of a block-based training approach on the morphometric parameters of rowers during the specialized basic training stage

Researchers compared a block-based training program with the standard youth sports school program in 43 young rowers over a 10-month cycle, measuring body size markers (height, mass, trunk length, chest circumference, arm span) and hand grip strength. Both groups improved, but the gains were larger and statistically significant across the measured parameters in the block-training group.
Takeaway: Consider organizing training into focused blocks rather than mixing everything year-round, especially for developing athletes.

The

Aim: of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the authors' training program in improving the physical fitness of rowers compared with the standard Youth Sports School training program over a 10-month training cycle.

Methods: . The study employed the analysis of scientific literature, pedagogical testing, and

methods of mathematical statistics. Forty-three athletes participated in the study and were equally assigned to the control group (CG, n = 21) and the experimental group (EG, n = 22). At the beginning of the experiment, no statistically significant differences were found between the groups in the studied indicators (p > 0.05), confirming their homogeneity for further comparison. The research methodology included a series of anthropometric measurements, including body height, body mass, trunk length with arms extended, chest circumference at rest, arm span, and hand grip strength (right- and left-hand dynamometry).
