Thadakante Sandhyarani Physical Education Teacher · International Journal of Physiology Sports and Physical Education · 2026

Abstract (source)

Physical training and regular participation in sports are important components of physical development and health promotion during childhood and adolescence. Physiological characteristics, including resting heart rate, cardiovascular endurance, blood pressure, respiratory function, and body composition, provide useful indicators for examining the relationship between physical activity and health. This review examines published evidence concerning physiological characteristics associated with regular sports training and physical activity among school-aged children and adolescents, with particular relevance to Telangana State, India. The review draws on established physical activity guidelines and published systematic reviews and meta-analyses of school-based exercise interventions. Available international evidence indicates that structured physical activity programmes can improve cardiorespiratory fitness, although the magnitude of improvement varies according to age, intervention duration, exercise type, and assessment

Method: . Differences in physiological measurements between trained and untrained students may also reflect maturation, sex, nutritional status, habitual physical activity, and socioeconomic circumstances. However, the evidence reviewed does not establish a representative statewide physiological profile or a definitive trained-versus-untrained comparison for school students across Telangana. Therefore,

Conclusions: specific to Telangana must be drawn cautiously. The review highlights the need for age-appropriate physiological assessment, clearly defined training categories, representative sampling, and standardized measurement procedures in future school-based research. Such evidence may help physical education teachers, sports coaches, and school administrators

Design: appropriate physical activity programmes and promote the health and fitness of school students.
