Assessment of sports training knowledge among amateur sportspersons: A cross-sectional study

Background: Knowledge of sports training principles is essential for improving performance, preventing injuries, and ensuring safe sports participation. However, evidence on amateur sportspersons' knowledge across different training domains remains limited.
Objective: To assess sports training knowledge and practices among amateur sportspersons across key training domains.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 60 amateur sportspersons from five sports. Data were collected using a validated self-developed Sports Training Knowledge Questionnaire covering seven domains: fitness components, training equipment, training professionals, warm-up, cool-down, exercise training, and injury management. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics.
Results: Knowledge levels differed across the assessed domains. Participants showed better knowledge of training professionals and exercise training, while lower knowledge was observed for fitness components and injury management. Overall, although participants demonstrated adequate knowledge in some areas, important gaps remained in several core aspects of sports training.
