Researchers had 15 male college-level footballers perform instep kicks while being pushed at the trunk from different directions, either expected or unexpected, and measured the support (plant) leg with motion capture and force plates. Unanticipated perturbations significantly changed plant-leg joint angles, moments and stiffness (including greater ankle inversion-eversion stiffness), suggesting the leg is under more control demand when a push isn't expected.
Fully automated 3D MRI assessment of isolated chondral fracture of the knee in an adolescent athlete: A case report.
This is a single case report of an 11-year-old soccer player whose knee injury looked normal on X-ray and CT, but MRI (including a fully automated 3D version) revealed an isolated cartilage fracture of the lateral femoral condyle and mapped its size and shape. After surgical fixation with bioabsorbable pins, follow-up MRI at 5 months showed complete cartilage healing and he returned to competitive soccer at 8 months without symptoms.
