IMPACT OF COLLEGE LIFE ON FITNESS DURING ADOLESCENCE: A PRE- AND POST- EXPERIMENTAL STUDY
International Journal of Drug Delivery Technology · 2026
Background: Adolescent physical inactivity is a growing concern in India, with college environments potentially influencing lifestyle habits and physical health.Given the decline in fitness levels during adolescence, targeted interventions are essential to prevent non-communicable diseases and promote long-term well-being.
Objective: To analyze the impact of a structured college-program for physical fitness based on aerobic capacity, muscle strength, and endurance in adolescent students.
Method: An experimental pre-post study was conducted over 4 weeks with ten college students meeting specific inclusion criteria.Subjects participated in supervised exercise sessions (three times per week), involving aerobic and musclestrengthening activities.Physical fitness parameters-VOâ‚‚ max, curl-ups, and trunk lift scores-were assessed before and after the intervention using validated field tests.Paired t-tests were performed to contrast before and after-exercise values.
Result: Following the intervention, all measured fitness parameters significantly improved.Mean VOâ‚‚ max went up from 35.56 to 46.52 mL/kg/min, curl-up scores from 11.60 to 67.60, and trunk lift scores from 8.15 to 9.20 (all p-values < 0.001).The
Results: indicate substantial gains in aerobic capacity, core muscle strength, and trunk endurance among participants.
Conclusion: A short-term structured physical activity program during college life leads to marked improvements in key fitness domains in adolescent students.Routine exercise interventions within educational settings can effectively enhance physical fitness and help prevent future health complications.
