Impact of Nordic Hamstring Curls and Retro Walking on improving Hamstring strength, Endurance in athletes; A Case Report

Chaithra Shetty, Abhilash V, P Kumari ยท International Journal For Multidisciplinary Research ยท 2026

This case report describes combining Nordic hamstring curls (an eccentric strength exercise) with retro (backward) walking to try to improve hamstring strength, flexibility, and endurance in an athlete. The abstract only sets up the rationale, noting that evidence on combining these two methods is limited, and does not report any results.
Takeaway: Treat this as a preliminary idea only โ€” Nordic curls remain the better-evidenced choice for hamstring strength until combined-protocol results are published.
Abstract (source)

Hamstring weakness, tightness, and reduced endurance are common in athletes and can affect sports performance while increasing the risk of injury. Nordic Hamstring Curls improve eccentric hamstring strength, and retro walking enhances lower limb muscle activation and flexibility. Combining these two interventions may effectively improve hamstring strength and endurance, but limited evidence is available regarding their combined effect in athletes.
