Intervenções fisioterapêuticas na reabilitação funcional de atletas de futebol pós-entorse de tornozelo

Abstract (source)

Introduction: Ankle sprains are one of the most prevalent musculoskeletal injuries in soccer, resulting in significant time off and a high risk of recurrence due to chronic instability. The evidence-based physiotherapy approach has evolved from purely passive treatments to a functional and progressive model focused on a safe return to sport.

Objective: To analyze the physiotherapy interventions evidenced in the scientific literature for the functional rehabilitation of soccer players after ankle sprains. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review, conducted in the PubMed/MEDLINE, SciELO, and PEDro databases, encompassing studies published between 2016 and 2026.

Discussion: Effective physiotherapy management is organized into well-defined biological phases. In the acute phase, the application of the PEACE and LOVE protocol, combined with photobiomodulation and kinesio taping, optimizes tissue control and reduces edema without compromising scar repair. In the intermediate phase, joint mobilization with movement (Mulligan concept) and Maitland oscillatory mobilizations restore dorsiflexion range of motion, while eccentric strengthening and core training restore dynamic stability. In the advanced phase, proprioceptive training contextualized to soccer and the Control-Chaos Continuum model ensure motor reintegration, requiring

objective criteria (LSI > 90% in hop tests and satisfactory scores on functional questionnaires) for sports clearance. Final Considerations: Early and structured functional rehabilitation based on objective progression criteria minimizes time away from the game, prevents chronic instability, and ensures the safe return of the soccer player to the field.
