The
Objective: of the study was to analyze scientific evidence on post-injury functional readaptation in soccer players from a sports physiotherapy perspective, identifying intervention protocols, return-to-play criteria, and functional outcomes.
Method: A literature review was conducted according to PRISMA 2020. Studies published between 2015 and 2025 were searched in PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and PEDRO. Eligible studies involved professional or semi-professional soccer players with musculoskeletal injuries treated through functional readaptation programs led by sports physiotherapists. Methodological quality was assessed using GRADE.
Results: Seven studies met inclusion criteria. Criterion-based, on-field rehabilitation programs significantly reduced return-to-play time and reinjury rates. Interventions including progressive strength, neuromuscular control, and sport-specific tasks improved dynamic stability and performance.
Conclusions: Sports physiotherapy plays a key role in post-injury functional recovery in soccer players, promoting safe and efficient return to competition. Evidence-based standardization of functional protocols is recommended.
