Abstract (source)

Background: Agility is a crucial physical fitness component that enables athletes to change direction quickly and efficiently. While the individual effects of aerobic and weight training on fitness parameters are well documented, the combined effect of these two training modalities on agility, particularly among female subjects, has received limited attention in existing literature.

Purpose: The

purpose of the study was to find out the effect of combined aerobics and weight training on agility of girls.

Method: For the

purpose of the study, 30 female subjects were selected from DAV University, Jalandhar. A 12-week training program was designed, consisting of a combination of aerobics and weight training exercises, conducted for 1 hour daily, preceded by a proper warm-up. Agility was assessed using the Illinois Agility Test (IAT), which involves a 10m x 5m course marked with 8 cones (4 corner cones and 4 center cones spaced 3.3 meters apart). Subjects began in a prone position and completed the course as quickly as possible, with time recorded in seconds. A pre-test was conducted before the commencement of training, and a post-test was conducted after the completion of the 12-week program. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS software, applying the paired sample t-test.

Result: The pre-test mean value was 23.90 (SD = 2.537), which decreased to a post-test mean value of 21.03 (SD = 1.732). A strong positive correlation of.786 (Sig. =.000) was found between pre-test and post-test scores. The paired difference showed a mean of 2.867 (SD = 1.592), with a t-value of 9.865 (df = 29), indicating a highly significant difference (p<.05).

Discussion: The

Results: clearly indicate that the 12-week combined aerobics and weight training program significantly improved the agility performance of the girls, as reflected by the reduced time taken to complete the course. This improvement can be attributed to the combined physiological benefits of both training modes enhanced cardiovascular endurance along with improved muscular strength and power.

Conclusion: The study concludes that a combined aerobics and weight training program significantly enhances agility in girls, and therefore this training combination can be effectively incorporated into sports training programs for female athletes.
